Introduction and Background
Sustained economic growth that was achieved during the past several years and the just completed GTP I and the ambitious GTP II launched this year suggest that the nation’s economy is poised for uninterrupted growth over the years and even decades to come.Ethiopia’s 2nd GTP recognised the importance of low cost energy towards fulfilling these objectives and as an incentive to industrial and economic development. The plan also realised that export sales of energy could provide an attractive long-term development opportunity.
Therefore, Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) is currently focusing on developing the country’s hydroelectric potential and the Koysha project provides generating capacity to meet the domestic demand and increase exports of electricity.
This Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) report for the Koysha project has been prepared to fulfil the requirements of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MEFCC) and presents the results of social and environmental issues of the Koysha Project.
Mid-Day International (MDI) Consulting Engineers of Ethiopia was charged by EEP(Ethiopian Electric Power) with the responsibility of preparing this ESIA.
